Motorized Retractable Glass and Aluminum Roof System for High-End Outdoor Spaces
Bespoke Design for Contemporary Architecture
Within the landscape of contemporary architecture, the design of outdoor spaces plays an increasingly central role. Terraces, rooftops, and wellness environments require solutions capable of ensuring a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor areas, year-round comfort, and a coherent architectural language aligned with the surrounding context.
In this framework, Campa Srl developed and delivered a custom motorized retractable roof system for the restaurant terrace at Sweet Lake Wellness, one of the largest wellness centers in the Netherlands. The project represents a balanced integration of engineering, design, and technological innovation.

Retractable System: Flexibility and Spatial Control
The motorized retractable roof enables dynamic space management, allowing the opening and closing configuration to be adjusted according to weather conditions and operational requirements. This type of solution is particularly effective in hospitality and wellness environments, where user experience is a key factor.
The system allows the terrace to be fully open during favorable seasons, or transformed into a protected and comfortable environment during colder months or variable weather conditions. The motorization ensures precision, reliability, and ease of use, even across large surface areas.
High-Performance Materials: Insulated Glass and Thermally Broken Aluminum
One of the defining features of the project is the use of high-performance materials, selected to ensure energy efficiency, thermal insulation, and long-term durability.
The roof is constructed using insulated glazing units, significantly improving thermal performance, reducing energy loss, and enhancing indoor comfort. Beyond its technical benefits, the use of glass maintains a high level of transparency and natural light, strengthening the visual connection with the surrounding environment.
Thermally broken aluminum profiles represent another key component of the system. This technology interrupts thermal bridging within the material, improving insulation performance and preventing condensation. Aluminum also ensures structural strength, lightweight performance, and high design flexibility, making it suitable for complex architectural applications.

Steel Load-Bearing Structure and Architectural Integration
The entire system is supported by a steel load-bearing structure, engineered to guarantee stability, safety, and resistance to both static and dynamic loads. Steel enables large spans while maintaining slender structural sections, contributing to a clean and minimal aesthetic.
Integration with the existing architecture was a central aspect of the project. The roof system has been designed to blend seamlessly with the context, enhancing the spatial identity without altering its visual coherence.

Panoramic Glazing: Visual Continuity and Full Opening
The system is completed with panoramic glazing solutions designed to maximize transparency and visual continuity between indoor and outdoor environments.
On the main façade, a bi-fold opening system has been adopted, allowing the vertical surface to be completely opened and creating a full connection with the exterior. This configuration is particularly effective in restaurant settings, where spatial perception and the relationship with the landscape are essential.
On the side elevations, minimal sliding glass systems have been installed, featuring ultra-slim profiles to ensure a lightweight visual impact. This solution preserves maximum daylight and spatial continuity, even when the glazing is closed.
